NASA Engineer + Nerf Gun = AWESOME! — Must See Video!

What do you do if you’re a NASA engineer with a love for Nerf guns and a little too much time on your hands?

Well, you make the world’s biggest Nerf gun, of course!

From the Huffington Post:

“A former NASA engineer may rocket to fame with his newest creation: the world’s largest Nerf gun.

Mark Rober said he built the supersized Nerf toy mostly to survive in the workplace.

‘People have these Nerf dart wars at work,’ Rober explained on a YouTube video showing off his handiwork. ‘In an effort to keep people from picking on me, I decided to create the world’s largest functional Nerf gun.'”

HA! Take that, bullies!

Here’s a little demonstration of the power of Mark’s Nerf gun:

More from HuffPo:

Regular Nerf darts are too small for Rober’s ginormous Nerf gun so he makes his own using plungers and pool noodles.

The gun is powered by a paintball canister capable of shooting 3,000-pounds-per-square-inch.

That’s a little too powerful for Rober’s needs so he’s modified the gun so each blast of air pressure that fills the gun can shoot off five shots before it needs a refill.

The darts shoot out of the gun at around 40 mph and can travel nearly 400 feet — perfect for some Nerf skeet shooting.

And, should a delinquent watermelon get any ideas about messing with Mark, well… let’s just say he better think twice:

And just in case you’re wondering… yes, Mark’s invention did get him into the Guiness Book of World Records for the world’s Largest Nerf Gun!

From the Guinness site:

In the heart of Sunnyvale, California (USA), you’ll find the man who’s made every child’s dream come true with an incredible super-sized toy gun.

Mark Rober has blasted his way into the new Guinness World Records 2017 Blockbusters! book for his massively awesome creation: the world’s Largest Nerf gun.

His inspiration for building the Nerf gun? His work colleagues. Mark explains: “Everyone in the office has Nerf guns and they shoot each other with them. I started thinking about how to one up my fellow engineers. I had a few different ideas but eventually decided to go big or go home.”

In fact, his biggest challenge in constructing the Nerf gun was the logistics behind harnessing the power of a paintball pressure tank to shoot a dart built from a pool noodle and a toilet plunger.

Besides constructing enormous toys, Mark is also an avid YouTuber.

A video of his record-breaking accomplishment posted on his channel has received nearly 14,315,534 views to date.

For Mark, who collected Guinness World Records books as a youngster, his new title is a dream come true.

“It’s really cool to make it into the Guinness World Records 2017 Blockbusters! book. I never thought I would get one but it’s always been a secret bucket list kind of thing. I now have the official certificate hanging in my office.”

Oh, and coming soon to a pool party near you… The Worlds Biggest Super Soaker!

What do you think of Mark’s new invention?
